The symbol of high quality with no compromise.
Out of the few Lebanese wines which I have known when I was living abroad, Château Marsyas was my favorite premium wine.
So when I returned to Lebanon, a friend of mine introduced me to Sandro & Karim Saadé. Since then, a friendship has quickly grown, and I had the chance to be invited many times to the property to better discover and enjoy the Marsyas wines & vintages.
Château Marsyas is a family initiative founded by Johnny Saadé’s sons on the search for excellence to produce a high-end Lebanese wine.
The domain is located in the west Bekaa, at an altitude of 900m, on a rich alluvial soil sheltered between Mount Lebanon chain on one side and Anti-Lebanon Mountain chain on the other. A fertile ancient land with a long and rich history of wine culture.
Its clay-limestone soil provides the ideal terroir for vines, growing beautiful grape varietals and producing well-balanced wines, full of freshness and character.
Here the Saadé family is producing wines of uncompromising quality giving primacy to the soil, an organic agriculture, a high plantation density and a very low yield per plant; In other words, highest quality standards for a high-end Lebanese wine.
For their reds they are using Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Mourvèdre, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc and for their whites Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
When you arrive at the domain of Château Marsyas you are immediately immersed in the beautiful vineyard scenery:
Out of sight vineyard furrows with an old oak tree in the middle.
The tree that is the symbol of the domain.
Then on one side, 3 shaded terraces where you can enjoy a barbecue lunch or a superior glass of wine contemplating the amazing panorama.
And on the other side the winery and the cellar where everything is broom, clean and very well organized reflecting the Saadé’s intransigence.
Discovering and rediscovering Marsyas wines and vintages.
“Château Marsyas red” is characterized by a dark color with a deep purple reflection and a nose of black fruits and liquorish spices. Complex, powerful and soft at the same time, round and well balanced with a long elegant fresh finish. A high-quality Lebanese wine.
The “Château Marsyas white” is of a pale Lemon & light green color with a nose of Stone, Citrus & Tropical fruits developing an elegant, fresh & round palate with soft minerality and balanced acidity.
“B-Qà de Marsyas red” is the mid-range wine of the domain enjoying the same high quality and produced with the same qualitative criteria. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvèdre. A deep purple appearance with a nose of floral aromas, red fruits & soft spices. The palate develops silky tannins & balanced acidity with a fairly long fruity finish. A smooth feel, blending finesse and minerality enjoyable for both the passionate wine lover and the occasional wine drinker.
“B-Qà de Marsyas white” while his elder brother is a 50/50 blend of Sauvignon Blanc & Chardonnay, B-Qà is an 80/20. It is of a Lemon and green appearance with a nose of tropical & stone fruits. The palate is fresh & mineral with a balanced acidity.
What I can say is that my initial long-lived love of the Marsyas red wine is not only justified but fully deserved. Now I am a passionate fan of the full range.
Thank you Sandro and thank you Karim for your intransigence, always seeking high quality.
