There are encounters in life that mark our spirits as there are discoveries that remain in our memories. This was one of them.
In our journey of the Lebanese Wines Route (over 65 wineries across Lebanon) we decided on that summery Sunday to spend it at Kab-Elias to discover “Château HERITAGE”.
The visit was an absolute coup de coeur. We had great pleasure in discovering very good wines and in meeting the owner and oenologist Mr Dargham Touma, a passionate and fascinating man, whose charisma and generosity exceeded all expectations.
His wines were the expression of his passion and a perfect combination of the soil, the grape variety and the know-how. There is something of the past that lies at the bottom of each bottle and a permanent search for different and singular tastes and aromas ... a true HERITAGE.
The premises consisted of an old school’s building that has been rehabilitated into a winery (production and cellar). On the first floor to the right is located a restaurant serving flavors of local products and specialty cooking, and on the left, a tasting room with an old smoking style alcove.
Our wine tasting went through several escalating stages:
First, the "Blanc de Blancs", a nice blend of Viognier 50%, Sauvignon-Blanc 35%, Chardonnay 10% and Muscat 5% for a dry white wine; followed by the very particular "Rosé d'une Nuit", a wine that stayed in contact with skin grape overnight, after which the juice was collected and separated from the skin.
Our taste buds awaken we moved to the red wines. Starting with the Nine "9" a good entry level wine formed from the combination of 9 different grapes.
Followed is "Château Heritage, Château" consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon 40% and Syrah 60%. The “Chateau” had an intense yet brilliant body, with fruity aromas released under the nose that recalls that of caramel and truffles... such a good length in the mouth!
The flavors transcend.
To experience the best of what Chateau HERITAGE has to offer, we had to taste the sublime "Château Héritage, Family Reserve" a distinguished and gold-medal wine. The wine was a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Syrah and in drinking it we could feel that the bottle was a highlight of all the know-how and technical mastery accumulated over the years by the Chateau. Truly an exceptional wine.
Unforgettable aromas, special moments: Thumbs up Mr oenologist ...
We left the winery, the arms loaded with crates and bottles and the heart full of emotions.
Thank you Mr Touma for your welcome, your generosity without limit, and thank you for having shared with us your passion and your HERITAGE.
We cannot wait to return for one (or more) nights to enjoy the hikes you organize and taste your cuisine.
